Akure youths raise alarm over alleged recurring killings, abductions

A youth group dubbed Akure Youths Coalition has raised fresh concerns over worsening insecurity in Ondo State, warning that recent killings and abductions reflect a growing pattern rather than isolated incidents.
In a statement, the group said the persistent attacks across communities in Akure and its environs have created fear and uncertainty among residents. The coalition identified affected areas to include Ilu-Abo, Eleyowo, Imafon, Igushin and Ilado, noting that gunmen have continued to operate with little resistance.
It cited a recent attack in Igushin where suspected kidnappers stormed a poultry farm, killing a woman and her daughter before striking again in Ilado, where a youth was reportedly murdered hours later.
The statement, signed by Comrade Ogundipe O’Seyi and Comrade Adekanbi Oluwatuyi, said the situation had forced many residents to flee their homes.
The group said, “These attacks are no longer isolated cases but a dangerous trend that is spreading across our communities.”
While acknowledging efforts by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the coalition lamented that the scale of violence had overshadowed the government’s achievements, adding that , “Families are being torn apart, and communities once considered safe are now gripped by fear and uncertainty.”
The youths called for urgent collaboration among government, traditional rulers and other stakeholders, urging decisive action to curb the violence.
They also demanded justice for victims and an immediate end to the killings, saying, “Enough is enough”.
