Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has assured the Super Eagles of Nigeria of a supportive and football-friendly environment as they prepare to face the Warriors of Zimbabwe in their 2026 World Cup qualifier in Uyo on Tuesday.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, the governor made this commitment during the team’s first training session at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Sunday. He officially welcomed the squad to the state, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming match.
While commending the team for their spirited performance in securing victory over Rwanda in Kigali, Governor Eno urged them to shift their focus to Tuesday’s crucial fixture. He encouraged them to remain determined and avoid complacency as they aim to secure maximum points to boost their qualification chances.
“You made Nigerians happy when you won in Kigali, and that victory is still being celebrated, but do not dwell on the past. Press on for what is to come— the game against Zimbabwe. Please, do not be complacent,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed Uyo’s reputation as a stronghold for the Super Eagles, expressing confidence that the team would continue their winning streak. He assured them that the state government would provide all necessary support to ensure victory.
Governor Eno also called on Akwa Ibom residents and Nigerians nationwide to fill the stadium in their green and white attire to cheer the team to victory.
Meanwhile, Sports Commissioner Elder Paul Bassey revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) plans to distribute 500 free jerseys to the first 500 fans arriving at the stadium on match day.
Nigeria currently sits in fourth place in Group C with six points after five rounds of matches. The Super Eagles will face Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Tuesday, March 25, at 5 p.m.
