Akwa Ibom govt delivers high-capacity CNG generators to Ibom Hotel
The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken delivery of three Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) generators for the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort as part of efforts to modernise the facility and improve power supply.
Speaking during an inspection of the newly delivered generators at the hotel premises in Uyo, the State Delivery Adviser on Tourism and Managing Director of the hotel, Sir Charles Udoh, described the development as a major step towards repositioning the facility to international standards.
Udoh said the delivery of the generators fulfilled one of Governor Umo Eno’s promises to overhaul and modernise the hotel for improved efficiency and service delivery.
According to him, the three generators are 1500KVA noise-proof CNG-powered units with a combined capacity of 4500KVA capable of addressing the long-standing electricity challenges at the hotel.
He explained that the hotel had over the years relied on ageing diesel generators and struggled with unstable power supply, resulting in high operational costs and disruptions in service delivery.
“With these generators, power will no longer be a problem for the hotel. This is a total upgrade from what we previously had. The hotel can now operate efficiently for extended periods without depending on public power supply,” Udoh said.
He added that the project also includes dedicated gas tanks and support systems to guarantee uninterrupted energy supply, noting that the CNG technology provides a cleaner, cheaper and more sustainable alternative to diesel-powered generators.
Udoh further disclosed that the ongoing remodelling project includes the renovation of 47 rooms, installation of industrial chillers, and over 1,500 solar-powered streetlights around the hotel premises and golf course to improve security, aesthetics and support night golf activities.
