Akwa Ibom unveils Model Primary Health Centre in Etim-Ekpo

The Akwa Ibom State Government has commissioned a state-of-the-art Model Primary Health Centre in Utu Ikot Okpo, Etim-Ekpo Local Government Area, reinforcing its commitment to quality healthcare across all 31 local government areas.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Tuesday, was attended by key government officials and stakeholders. Representing Governor Pastor Umo Eno at the event, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, highlighted the administration’s dedication to universal health coverage and accessible healthcare.

“The Governor’s ARISE Agenda prioritizes rural development and healthcare. This newly upgraded Primary Health Centre is a testament to his commitment,” Dr. John said.

He further emphasized the significance of the facility, noting that it is part of broader efforts to expand healthcare access through the state’s Health Insurance Scheme.

“When we talk about universal health coverage, we are talking about access. Today, you have a world-class facility right here, staffed with competent medical professionals ready to serve you,” he added.

Equipped with modern medical facilities, the newly inaugurated health centre will provide primary healthcare services to residents of Etim-Ekpo, Oruk-Anam, Ukanafun, and Abak local government areas.

The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, who performed the official inauguration, commended the Governor’s commitment to healthcare development. He assured that the House of Assembly would continue to support policies that enhance healthcare delivery in the state.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Political Leader of Etim-Ekpo, Barr. Emmanuel Enodidem (SAN), and Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerete Ekanem.
