The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has charged the new Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adedayo Adegbola, to prioritize unity and peaceful coexistence in his reign.

Speaking at the coronation ceremony on Saturday, Oba Owoade stressed the importance of promoting and preserving traditional institutions for the progress of society.

The monarch noted that Yoruba Obas play crucial roles in sustaining democracy and driving development, describing them as essential pillars in modern Yorubaland.

Oba Owoade advised the new Eleruwa to be a symbol of integrity and a mediator in resolving interpersonal, ethnic, and communal disputes, which he said are inevitable in every society but must be peacefully managed.

“Obas must show deep understanding and respect for the traditions, customs, and religions of their people. Their power and authority come from these traditions, and honoring them ensures continued respect and loyalty from their subjects,” Alaafin Owoade added.

Congratulating Oba Adegbola on his ascension, the Alaafin urged him to do everything within his capacity to foster peace, unity, and harmony in Eruwaland.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal, Speaker of the State Assembly Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, representatives of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Shefiu Oyebola, other royal fathers, religious leaders, and top government officials.
