Alaafin announces coronation committee

The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Engr. Akeem Abimbola Owoade, has approved a 97-member Local Organizing Coronation Committee (LOC) to ensure a seamless and successful coronation ceremony.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the new Alaafin, Rotimi Osuntola, MBA.

According to the statement, the committee chaired by Dr. Kunle Ogunmola, an Oyo-born seasoned technocrat and former INEC Commissioner, comprises of distinguished individuals from various fields.

The statement further said that the LOC will work closely with the committee already set up by the Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde, to facilitate the effective planning and execution of the coronation ceremony.

The committee’s inaugural meeting is scheduled for February 12, 2025, at the Alaafin’s Palace, Oyo.

Osuntola said the coronation ceremony aims to unite Yorubaland, promoting active participation from stakeholders within and beyond the region.

He said, “The ultimate goal is to deliver an all-inclusive, epoch-making, grand, and hitch-free coronation that proudly showcases the rich Yoruba cultural heritage to the world.”

The 97-member committee includes notable individuals such as Dr. Kunle Ogunmola, Chairman; Prince Owoade Adediwura, Vice Chairman; distinguished Senator Monsurat Sunmonu; Amb. Victor Adekunle Adeleke, State House Chief of Protocol, Aso Rock; High Chief Asimiyu Atanda (Agbaakin); and High Chief Lamidi Oye Wale (Basaamu) among other notable individuals.
