The Alaafin of Oyo, Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has expressed deep concern over a threat notice disclosed in a letter, allegedly targeting the communities of Ira, Inaja, and Aho in Kwara State.
According to credible sources, the letter was dropped at the Ira market in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Alaafin condemned the threat, emphasizing that no community should live under terror or fear of displacement from their ancestral lands. He further stated that Ira is the ancestral home of the legendary Oya, wife of Sango, and holds a significant cultural value in Yoruba heritage.
The monarch described the threat as an effort to undermine the authority of the Nigerian state and should be counted as a violation of the citizens’ fundamental rights to live, work, and worship in peace.
“No criminal group, however hidden, has the right to dictate how our people live, where they sleep, or whether they remain on their ancestral soil,” the Alaafin said.
He acknowledged the complex nature of Nigeria’s insecurity but praised ongoing efforts by the Kwara State and Federal governments, while urging sustained, visible, and coordinated security measures to reassure affected communities.
Residents were advised to remain calm but vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. The Alaafin also pledged continuous support and solidarity to local and traditional leaders, while warning trouble makers to steer clear of Ira, Inaja, Aho, and other parts of the State.
