The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has extended heartfelt condolences to the royal family of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Dr.) Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I), who passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025.
Oba Owoade expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting that the monarch’s demise came less than a year after he ascended the throne. He described the passing as a significant loss not only to Ibadanland but to the entire Yoruba nation.
In a message delivered through his Director of Media and Publicity, ‘Bode Durojaiye, the Alaafin described Oba Olakulehin as a visionary leader whose short reign brought progress to Ibadan. He noted that the monarch’s legacy would be remembered for years to come.
“A good heart has stopped beating, a good soul has ascended to heaven,” Oba Owoade stated. “We part with our beloved monarch in pain. May our Lord bless and comfort the entire royal family during this time of grief.”
Reflecting on the inevitability of death, the Alaafin reminded the public that no human is immortal. Citing religious teachings, he emphasized that all souls must taste death, encouraging reflection and purposeful living.
He added that life’s trials—both joyful and sorrowful—are tests of faith and character, and described the late Olubadan as a man of resilience, commitment, and compassion, who served honorably until the end.
The Alaafin extended sympathies on behalf of the Oyo royal household and the people of Oyo town, praying that the royal family and Ibadanland find strength during this difficult time.
“With a heavy heart, we say goodbye to our beloved father and ruler. May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may the love and support of those around the bereaved provide solace in the days ahead,” he concluded.
