The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has congratulated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II, on his 10th coronation anniversary.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the Alaafin said he was delighted to join other Yoruba traditional rulers, as well as the people of Oyo and Osun states, in celebrating the milestone. He praised the Ooni for his commitment and resilience in leading his people over the past decade.

According to him, the monarch’s exposure and charisma have continued to strengthen the influence of the throne.

Oba Owoade added that the Ooni’s wisdom and warmth would continue to promote peace and civility in the kingdom, while praying for God to grant him more years of a fruitful reign.

The Alaafin used the occasion to call for unity among Yoruba monarchs, saying the progress of Yorubaland depends on the sincerity and co-operation of traditional rulers.

He noted that monarchs are primarily responsible for preserving peace, culture and tradition, stressing that they are custodians of ancestral legacies and not religious leaders.

According to him, unity must be based on mutual trust, understanding and shared values, as well as tolerance for differences in opinion, ethnicity and religion.

Oba Owoade further said unity in diversity is essential for national cohesion and urged continuous efforts to strengthen integration across Nigeria.
