UPDATED: Palace confirms Alaafin of Oyo’s death

The death of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III has been officially confirmed by the palace.
The Sun reported that the late monarch’s media aide Bode Durojaiye confirmed his death.
“It is true. Alaafin has joined his ancestors. I saw his remains laid down in the palace. The palace is mourning now. I can confirm that to you. There are many people that have stormed the palace at Oke-Afin in Oyo town. I am there right now. I will give details later through a press statement,” Durojaiye said
Asked about the press statement that was circulated this morning, debunking Alaafin’s death, Durojaiye responded, ” I did not issue any press statement today. That press release was issued a long time ago when it was rumoured that Alaafin was dead.”
WesternPost had earlier reported that the Alaafin died late on Friday aged 83.
He was said to have died at Afe Babalola Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti.
According to palace sources, the late monarch’s body has been brought back to Oyo town.
Alaafin Adeyemi III ruled Oyo town for 52 years, becoming the longest serving Alaafin in the town’s history.
He ascended the throne November 18, 1970, suceeding Alaafin Gbadegesin Ladigbolu II.
