Alaafin palace denies appointment of new Chief Imam in Oyo

By Adejayan Gbenga –
The Alaafin’s Palace has dismissed circulating rumours claiming that a new Chief Imam has been appointed in Oyo.
In a statement issued on Monday by Bode Durojaiye, Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin, the palace described the reports as “unfounded, baseless, and wicked,” urging the public to disregard them.
The statement emphasised that no candidate has been selected for the town’s highest Islamic position, noting that the process of choosing a new Chief Imam is still ongoing and involves thorough consultations.
The palace called on residents to remain calm and patient, assuring them that the rightful appointment will be made in due course.
It also reiterated that the exclusive authority to appoint the Chief Imam rests solely with the Alaafin.
