ALGON procures 90 patrol vehicles to support security agencies in Osun

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State chapter, on Tuesday donated 90 security patrol vehicles procured by the association to strengthen the activities of security agencies in the state.

Chairman of the association, Hon. Samuel Abiodun, disclosed this during the presentation of the patrol vehicles to security agencies at the state police headquarters in Osogbo on Tuesday, noting that the vehicles would be handed over in batches before the end of May.

Abiodun said the vehicles would enhance mobility, improve response time, and enable security agencies in the state to be more proactive on security issues.

He said, “I am proud to affirm that local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people. We understand the peculiar security challenges within our communities, and we are determined to support all necessary efforts to address them effectively.”

Abiodun, however, attributed the procurement of the patrol vehicles to the growing autonomy of local governments, saying councils were now better positioned to respond proactively to security and welfare challenges at the grassroots.

He said local government autonomy had enabled councils to manage resources more effectively, design programmes suited to local realities, and execute people-oriented projects without unnecessary delays.

In his remarks, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Umar Nadada, acknowledged the visionary leadership and commitment of the ALGON leadership in the state, noting that the gesture was a clear demonstration of the association’s unwavering commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of the people of the state.

Nadada, while thanking ALGON for what he described as a thoughtful and impactful intervention, assured that the vehicles would be judiciously and professionally used in the best interest of public safety.
