Alia commends security agencies for swift response to Ukum attack

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has commended security agencies for their swift response to an attack on communities in Ukum Local Government Area of the state.
The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, on Sunday, said terrorists allegedly posing as herdsmen invaded Mbaterem, Ayaba, Ikpur, Yina, Aboajio and Ukpen communities in Mbazun Ward in the early hours of Sunday.
The attackers reportedly killed some residents and injured others during the assault.
Alia condoled with families who lost loved ones and expressed sympathy to those injured in the attack.
He assured residents that his administration would continue to provide the necessary support to security agencies to enable them protect lives and property across the state.
The governor warned those seeking to undermine the peace process in Benue, insisting that his administration would not be intimidated into abandoning its responsibility to protect the people.
“Benue lands for Benue people. Anyone who thinks attacking us will intimidate us to leave the land is making a mistake,” he said.
Alia added, “I took an oath to protect our people, and I will not relent. I must appreciate the fact that the federal government is advancing a lot of support for us to tackle these acts of terrorism.”
