AMAA 2022: KSA, P-Square to headline 18th edition

…as Sanwo-Olu prepares to host Africa film practitioners

Legendary Juju singer and master guitarist, King Sunny Ade and singing duo, P-Square have been announced as the headliners for the 18th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards, AMAA.

The movie awards is scheduled to hold on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the Jewel Aeida Hall in Lekki highbrow, Lagos.

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is the host of the awards ceremony, has promised the expected film practitioners across Africa and diaspora a wonderful week.

Activities for the 18th edition of AMAA kicked off on Friday, October 21, 2022 with an Islamic session in Agege area of Lagos State. The prayer session was followed with a Mass ceremony at the St. Dominic Catholic Church in Yaba on Sunday, October 23, 2022.

On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, over 900 trainees graduated from three months long film camp, an initiative from the collaboration of Africa Film Academy in conjunction with the Lagos State government through the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism.

AMAA’s show director and content coordinator, Kingsley James, said the activities heralding the 18th edition of the Academy Awards is a pointer to a memorable edition in 2022.

James also revealed other performers scheduled for the show, including Yinka Davies, Young Jon, Ayo Bankole, Zadok, Matty, Veentage Band, DJ Kenchello, and Gerald Eze.

The road to the AMAA gala night continues with activities that include a film and music conference scheduled for Friday, October 28, 2022, at the Jewel Aeida Hall, Lekki and the AMAA Fashion show scheduled for the same day and venue. The fashion show is expected to kick off at 8pm.

Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, founder of AMAA, expressed delight at the activities saying, “All I can tell you is that the 2022 AMAAs will blow your mind away. It will be the combination of glitz, glamour, and reward for true professionalism and artistry.”
