Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, have arrested a 27-year-old man, identified as Gambo, who was allegedly negotiating the payment of ransom for the release of kidnap victims.

Gambo was reportedly apprehended in the Shasha area of Akure after security operatives tracked his activities and caught up with him during the alleged ransom negotiation.

The state commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this on Monday while parading 10 suspects arrested for various alleged offences across Ondo State.

Adeleye also said a 19-year-old suspect, Murtala, was arrested in Molege, Owo, after allegedly breaking into the residence of his former employer’s wife while armed with a locally made gun and other weapons.

He said the alleged abduction attempt was foiled after the woman’s husband and neighbours raised the alarm, prompting Amotekun operatives and members of the Fulani community to intervene and arrest the suspect.

According to the commander, Murtala allegedly confessed to participating in previous kidnapping operations and identified the Owo incident as his latest planned attack, while Adeleye commended members of the Fulani community for their cooperation with security agencies.

The remaining eight suspects were arrested over alleged offences including motorcycle theft, burglary and robbery, with Mustafa Aniliasu accused of breaking into religious centres and stealing motorcycles, while another suspect, Duyilemi, was allegedly posing as a commercial motorcyclist to rob passengers.

Adeleye said the suspects would be handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution, adding that the arrests were part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities across Ondo State.
