Amotekun arrests suspects in connection with Owo Catholic church massacre

Operatives of Amotekun Corps in Ondo State said some have arrested some suspects in connection with the June 5 massacre at St Francis Catholic Church, Owo.

The state commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, made this known to journalists on Thursday in Akure while parading 71 suspected criminals.

He however did not give the actual figure of the suspects arrested but gave the assurance that the attackers of the worship center would be apprehended.

Mr. Adeleye added that the last vehicle used by the killers before they moved into the bush has been recovered.

He said: “We have recovered the last vehicle they used in the operation and we have made some arrests. We have recovered some vital things which we are working on.

“We are not stopping until we get to the root of this and I assure that the perpetrators and their sponsors will be brought to book.’’

He added that investigation into the attack is ongoing and that the perpetrators of the terror attack in Owo will not go unpunished.

Adeleye said the 71 suspects were arrested within the month for cattle rustling, armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, human trafficking and theft of commercial motorcycles.

The corps commander said that already, 31 stolen motorcycles had been recovered.

It would be recalled that 40 persons were killed and about 60 others injured in the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State.

Some of the victims were buried on June 17 after a funeral mass held at the Mydas Resort and Hotel, Owo.
