Amotekun nabs 51 suspects in Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, has arrested 51 suspected criminals across the 18 local government areas of the state, including its forests.

Parading the suspects in Akure on Friday, the Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said they were picked up for offences ranging from kidnapping, rape, human trafficking, breach of public peace, anti-open grazing to robbery.

According to him, six of the suspects were directly linked to kidnapping, while 37 were arrested for disturbing public order. He added that some were collaborators posing as hawkers and scrap pickers but working as informants to kidnappers.

He said, “Today, we are parading 51 suspects arrested in various nooks and crannies and forests of the state. We have 37 suspects arrested for breach of law and order. We have six major kidnap suspects and one case of abuse, which is rape.

“As a result of the activities of the Amotekun Rangers in the forest, we were able to dismantle a terrible kidnap syndicate. One of their armourers, who happened to be here today, has been arrested, and he has confessed to five major kidnap operations within the state.”

Adeleye explained that 35 of the suspects would be charged in court, while the rest would undergo internal dispute resolution before possible prosecution.

He warned criminals to steer clear of the state, stressing that Amotekun would sustain its operations to keep the state safe for residents and investors.
