Amotekun nabs teen robber who fled Kwara to Ondo

By Boye Oyeyemi –

Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, have arrested a 19-year-old suspected serial motorcycle robber, Oyediran Ayomide, who allegedly fled from Kwara State after attacking a rider during the ongoing Ember border patrol, Operation Le Won Jade.

Ayomide, said to be from Ola in Kwara State, was tracked to Ore, where he was accused of ambushing a commercial motorcyclist with a sledgehammer before escaping with the bike.

He later told reporters in Akure that he planned to use the stolen motorcycle for transport business in the area.

“I told the Okada rider to take me from Omu-Aran to a farm settlement. When we got there, I pretended to make a phone call to distract him. Then I hit him on the head with a sledgehammer. He abandoned the motorcycle and ran,” he confessed.

Investigators discovered that the suspect stayed in Ore for a while after the attack before attempting to return to the scene, thinking the victim might have died.

The Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Jimoh Adeniken, confirmed the arrest and said Ayomide had been transferred to the Kwara State Local Government Security Initiative for further investigation and prosecution.

The security outfit in Kwara expressed gratitude to Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for bolstering security operations, noting that strengthened cooperation would help tackle cross-border crime.
