A 45-year-old man named Segun Makinde has narrated how operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, rescued him and his teenage son from suspected kidnappers in Akure.

Recounting his experience, Makinde disclosed that the incident occurred when he was ambushed and attacked shortly after arriving home on March 27 as his assailants opened fire on his vehicle, explaining that the attackers captured and assaulted him with cutlasses before dragging him and his 15-year-old son into the bush.

He revealed that they eventually seized a chance to escape when they heard voices nearby, unaware that security operatives had already surrounded the area.

“They moved us for hours, beating me and threatening to kill us if we resisted. More armed men later joined the group as we advanced deeper into the forest. When we heard some voices nearby, we decided to escape. As we attempted to flee, the kidnappers started shooting, however, the Amotekun operatives responded immediately. In the confusion, we managed to escape further into the bush,” Makinde stated.

While commending the Amotekun team for their swift response, the kidnap victim disclosed that the security operatives located and rescued himself and his son, and provided them with medical care before taking them to the Amotekun headquarters in Alagbaka.

Confirming the incident, the Corps Commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, noted that the victims were indeed abducted at Pelebe area on the outskirts of the state capital on March 27, 2026.

He further disclosed that the abduction occurred between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., adding that the victims were later rescued during a late-night operation along Oda Road in Akure South Local Government Area.

According to him, Amotekun operatives subdued the kidnappers in a gun duel, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee into the forest.
