Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, have intercepted a truck loaded with coal and carrying 38 passengers of unknown destination in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The interception occurred at the Cathedral area of Akure metropolis in Akure South Local Government Area during a routine security operation by the agency.

It was gathered that the passengers, mostly youths aged between 20 and 27, were travelling from Gombe State in a newly acquired Mercedes-Benz truck with Jigawa registration number GML 335 XR.

Security sources said the occupants claimed they were heading to Ondo State to meet relatives but could not provide verifiable addresses or contact details, raising suspicion among operatives.

One of the passengers was reportedly found with a uniform bearing the word “Commander” and some charms, which he said were tools for his work as a hunter, although he could not clearly state his destination.

The 20-year-old driver and his 19-year-old conductor told Amotekun operatives that they picked up the passengers along the route and had no previous connection with them.

Confirming the incident, the Amotekun Commander in Ondo State, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said all the passengers would be profiled, adding that those found culpable would be prosecuted, while those cleared would be returned to their states of origin.
