Amotekun warns cult groups against planned activities in Ondo

By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has cautioned against plans by cult groups to stage unlawful activities linked to the symbolic date “7/7.”
The State Commander of the Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, issued the warning in Akure, revealing that intelligence reports have uncovered plots by some cultists to hold secret gatherings and violent rituals on Monday, July 7.
Adeleye described the alleged plans as a serious danger to law and order, stressing that any individual caught engaging in cult-related acts would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
“Our findings show that certain cult groups are preparing to mark the so-called ‘7/7’ with illegal events that could lead to unrest in some areas. We will not allow such threats to go unchecked,” he said.
He further noted that Amotekun, working closely with other security forces, has already taken preventive steps to disrupt any such activities. He reassured the people of Ondo State that their safety remains a top priority.
The Corps commander also urged parents and guardians to keep a close eye on their children and discourage them from getting involved in criminal activities.
He called on traditional leaders, community elders, and faith-based organisations to actively support efforts to steer youths away from cultism.
“Our mission is to protect lives and property, and we rely on the support of residents. If you observe anything suspicious, don’t hesitate to speak up,” Adeleye added.
