The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa chapter, has rejected the Ondo State Government’s reported 60 per cent increase in subvention to the state-owned universities, insisting that its ongoing industrial action will continue.
The union said the additional funding, reportedly aimed at supporting the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement, failed to address all the issues behind the strike.
In a statement issued by the chapter’s Chairperson, Comrade Ogunbamike Oluwatoyin Kehinde, the union said it acknowledged the development but maintained that its demands went beyond the increase in subvention.
According to the statement, the union had embarked on a “full-scale industrial action” over its outstanding demands, which had been communicated in previous circulars.
ASUU declared that the strike remained total, comprehensive and indefinite until all its grievances were resolved.
The union urged its members to remain focused and resolute, warning them against being distracted by what it described as half-measures or misinformation.
It said the reported increase in subvention should not be interpreted as an end to the industrial action, stressing that its members would remain on strike until their demands were met.
“No retreat. No surrender,” the union declared, calling on its members to remain united as the struggle continued. The statement followed a similar position by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko branch, which dismissed claims that the Ondo State Government had released funds to address its outstanding demands.
