Anthony Joshua shares recovery update months after fatal accident

World heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has shared an update on his recovery months after surviving a fatal accident in Nigeria, revealing that he is still healing from the trauma.
The boxer made the disclosure while giving fans insight into his rehabilitation process. In a post captioned “Rehabilitation protocol” on Snapchat, Joshua shared a video of himself undergoing rib therapy sessions, which appeared painful.
Reflecting on his recovery journey, the 36-year-old said people often realise they are stronger than they think when faced with difficult experiences.
It will be recalled that Joshua lost two close associates in the December 2026 accident — his childhood friend and personal trainer, Kevin Ayodele, fondly called “Latz”, and his long-time recovery therapist, Sina Ghami. Both reportedly died at the scene.
Before the accident, the deceased associates played significant roles in his boxing career. Latz shared a longstanding relationship with Joshua dating back to their childhood, while Ghami was instrumental in managing the boxer’s physical fitness and recovery throughout his career.
The possibility of Joshua’s return to the boxing ring has been widely debated following the severity of his injuries. However, his promoter, Eddie Hearn, has expressed optimism that the heavyweight champion will fight again in honour of his late associates.
