APC accuses Makinde of abandoning duties for 2027 ambitions

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of neglecting his current duties in favor of his political ambitions for 2027, calling his approach a “disservice” to the people of Oyo State.
In a statement released Saturday, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, criticized Makinde’s recent remarks, in which the governor blamed the APC for internal challenges within his own People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
At a recent event in Ibadan, Makinde claimed that the APC was meddling in the affairs of the PDP and other opposition parties. He also emphasized his commitment to working with the Osun State governor to strengthen the PDP across the South-West, aiming to counter any interference from the APC.
Responding to these comments, Morka questioned Makinde’s leadership and accused him of exhibiting “reckless executive flippancy.”
“Rather than taking responsibility for issues within his party, Governor Makinde has chosen to blame the APC, diverting attention from his own underperformance as governor,” Morka stated. “Leaders in the PDP, including Makinde, need to own up to their internal failures instead of pointing fingers.”
The APC also highlighted its accomplishments under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, mentioning recent economic reforms, a trade surplus of nearly N7 billion in Q2 2024, and a boost in foreign reserves exceeding $40 billion.
The statement pointed to improvements in Nigeria’s revenue-to-debt service ratio and non-oil exports, as well as welfare programs, including cash transfers to millions and an increased minimum wage.
Morka further accused Makinde of neglecting Oyo State’s needs to pursue his national ambitions.
“Instead of addressing pressing local issues, Makinde seems more focused on his plans for 2027,” Morka said. “Nigeria’s complexities demand more than his self-serving aspirations.”
The APC concluded its statement by urging Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s administration, assuring that ongoing reforms would lead to long-term benefits and a prosperous future.
