The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the National Assembly for swiftly approving President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State, describing it as a patriotic step toward restoring peace and stability.
In a statement on Thursday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka praised lawmakers—especially the opposition caucus—for prioritizing national interest over partisanship.
“The 10th Assembly has demonstrated patriotism by putting the peace and security of Rivers State first. We particularly applaud the opposition caucus for rising above partisanship in support of the proclamation,” the statement read.
The party reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to restoring law and order in Rivers, protecting critical national assets, and ensuring the effective functioning of all arms of government in the state.
APC also criticized opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, accusing them of inaction during the crisis.
“These self-serving individuals did what they do best—issued lengthy, convoluted, and utterly meaningless statements to score their names on news headlines and drum up tension,” APC stated.
The party called on Rivers residents and all Nigerians to support the government’s efforts to restore constitutional governance and security in the state.
