APC berates Governor Makinde over comment on political crisis in Osun

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over his remarks on the ongoing political impasse in Osun.

Makinde, who attended the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected council chairmen in Osun, advised the APC to seek legal redress rather than resorting to self-help.

However, the Osun APC, in a statement by its Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, dismissed Makinde’s advice as “unnecessary.” The party accused the governor of attempting to appease his fellow party member while ignoring alleged attacks on APC members by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The APC questioned Makinde’s silence on the alleged killing of Hon. Remi Abass, the newly reinstated APC chairman in Irewole Local Government, and other reported assaults on its members.

The statement reads:

“Where was Governor Makinde when his political ally in Osun used the State Government House to incite PDP members to attack our members and chieftains?

“Where was Governor Makinde when PDP thugs shot and killed Hon. Remi Abass, the reinstated chairman of our party in Ikire, Irewole Local Government?

“Where was Governor Makinde when PDP loyalists killed a person in Irojo, Ilesa, during the illegal local government election orchestrated by his party?

“Why did Governor Makinde remain silent when PDP thugs almost killed APC chieftains, including Engr. Remi Omowaye, a serving Executive Director at the Federal Housing Authority, and Mr. Tobi Famurewa in Ilesa?

“Governor Makinde is in no position to teach the APC how to pursue the rights of our duly elected chairmen and councillors following the Court of Appeal judgment delivered in Akure on February 10, 2025.

“Where was Governor Makinde when Governor Adeleke ignored the Attorney-General of the Federation’s advice to halt his so-called election, despite the Court of Appeal ruling that no new election was required in Osun State until the tenure of the reinstated APC council chairmen and councillors ends?

“Why did Governor Makinde stay silent while his Osun counterpart insulted state security officials, including the Commissioner of Police, the State Director of the DSS, and the State Commandant of the Civil Defence, as they worked to maintain peace?

“Was Governor Makinde unaware that his ally in Osun defied the Inspector-General of Police’s security warning and went ahead with his sham election?

“We do not need Governor Makinde’s biased advice. If he wishes to offer counsel, he should direct it to Governor Adeleke, who consistently disregards the rule of law in every way.”
