APC cautions NULGE against allegiance with Osun Govt

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) against being swayed by the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration in the state.

In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, the APC urged Comrade Aliyu Haruna Kankara, the newly elected NULGE President, to be wary of the Osun State Government’s attempt to lead his executive members into what it described as an “unholy and perfidious alliance” under the pretense that all is well with NULGE in the state.

Olabisi said, “We want to intimate the national leadership of NULGE that they were brought to Osun State to play dirty politics, which is far from the reality of the situation in the local government council areas across the state.”

He further claimed that the union in Osun State has become factionalized, with a group called the Association of Concerned Local Government Employees (ACLGE) led by Comrades Tirimisiyu Adekunle and Akinkunmi Adepoju now emerging.

“We were surprised that the state leadership of the factionalized NULGE, led by a lapdog of the state government, Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, failed to inform the national president that the union has become an arm of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. This same faction has refused to honour the Court of Appeal judgement of February 10, 2025, which reinstated the APC local government chairmen and councillors,” Olabisi alleged.

The APC chieftain urged the Kankara-led national leadership of NULGE to resist any undue influence from the Adeleke administration and uphold the rule of law.

According to him, the national body of NULGE should not succumb to pecuniary temptations or be coerced into actions that go against the law. He warned that encouraging disobedience to the Court of Appeal judgment could damage the union’s credibility.

Olabisi also called on the national leadership to prevail on the Osun chapter of NULGE to end its boycott of local government councils, which he alleged has crippled grassroots governance in the state.
