APC clears Yahaya Bello for Kogi Central senatorial primary election

Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has been cleared by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to participate in the party’s primary election for the Kogi Central Senatorial District.

The clearance puts to rest earlier speculations that the former governor had not successfully passed the party’s screening exercise.

Bello is among three aspirants contesting the APC ticket in Kogi Central ahead of the primary scheduled for Monday.

Other cleared aspirants include APC Diaspora Secretary, Momoh Obaro, and Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke, who are also expected to contest the senatorial ticket.

The development follows days of political tension and rumours within party circles suggesting that Bello’s screening process had been stalled or faced complications.

However, the party has now confirmed that he successfully scaled the screening process and remains in the race for the APC ticket.

The APC primary is expected to be conducted in line with party guidelines, after which a candidate will emerge to face the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
