APC defends Tinubu’s economic achievements, slams Obi’s criticism

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly defended the economic reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, dismissing former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi’s, recent criticism.

The response came after Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, appeared on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, to criticize President Tinubu’s economic policies.

Obi had claimed that his own approach to governance would have been more effective, accusing the administration of poor performance in implementing economic reforms.

Responding to Obi’s claims, the APC in a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, labelled his remarks on the government’s performance as “opportunistic” and “misleading.” The party emphasized that while some challenges had affected Nigerians, the government’s economic policies had led to tangible improvements.

The ruling party highlighted Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State, criticizing his leadership for economic stagnation and infrastructural decay, which he claimed left the state struggling.

It further pointed to several achievements under the current administration, such as a 3.6% economic growth forecast, increased oil production, and a fast-expanding foreign reserve.

The party noted that under Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria had cleared a $7 billion forex backlog, reduced its debt servicing ratio, and revitalized local refineries, among other successes.

“Under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria is undergoing an economic transformation, and global institutions are acknowledging the nation’s growing competitiveness,” the statement read.
