APC faults ADC over Edo shooting allegation, calls for investigation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) linking it to a reported shooting incident involving ADC members in Edo State.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the opposition party as “its own nemesis,” accusing it of attempting to politicise the incident without allowing security agencies to conduct investigations.

The APC was reacting to an earlier statement by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was responsible for the shooting.

Morka said the accusation was “utterly delusional” and faulted the ADC for drawing conclusions before the conclusion of law enforcement investigations. He argued that such claims showed a disregard for due process and constitutional order.

The APC also criticised the ADC’s reference to alleged “acts of terrorism” by the ruling party, describing the claim as reckless and insensitive, particularly in light of ongoing security operations across the country. The ruling party said such characterisations undermined the efforts and sacrifices of security personnel.

While distancing itself from the incident, the APC condemned violence in the political space and called on the police and other law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough and expeditious investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible.

The party further urged investigators to examine internal disputes within the ADC as part of their probe, alleging that the opposition party has been plagued by factional leadership struggles.

The APC maintained that it had no involvement in the Edo incident, stating that it remains focused on governance and recent electoral successes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as constituency elections in Rivers and Kano states.
