APC NEC confirms indirect primaries, pegs presidential form at N100m

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that indirect mode of primaries will be used to pick the party’s flagbearers for various elective positions in the 2023 general elections.

This was one of the decisions taken at the NEC meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday.

WesternPost had earlier reported that governors elected on the platform of the APC in a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday night insisted that the party should jettison the consensus arrangement which was used to pick the party leaders in the convention last month for the indirect mode.

This was ratified by the NEC which had President Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, state governors, state party chairmen and others in attendance.

The party also fixed the price for the presidential form for N100m, with the expression of interest form at N30m and nomination form at N70m.

Candidates vying for the governorship seats are expected to pay N50m, while those vying for senate seats are expected to pay N20.

House of Reps forms cost N10m, while House of Assembly forms cost N2m.

The party also approved 50 per cent discounts for aspirants for all of the positions under the age of 40.

Women and persons living with disabilities are however to pick the forms free of charge.

The party is expected to hold its presidential primaries on May 30 and 31, while the governorship primaries will hold on May 23.

House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate primaries of the APC are also to hold on May 11, May 16 and May 18 respectively.

At the meeting the NEC also relinquished its powers to the National Working Committee of the party to act on its behalf for the next 90 days.
