APC NEC meets April 20 to ratify primary dates

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled its first meeting after the national convention which brought in the new leadership of the party.

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, the maiden NEC is slated for April 20 at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja by 10am.

According to Morka, the NEC meeting would consider the party’s timetable/schedule for primaries for the 2023 general elections.

“Pursuant to Article 25.2.ii of the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the National Working Committee (NWC) hereby invites members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great party to a meeting to consider the party’s Timetable/Schedule of activities for primaries for the nomination of candidates for the 2023 general elections and other relevant business of the party.

“All members of the NEC are by this invitation to take notice of the meeting in accordance with Article 12.3 of the APC Constitution, please,” the official notice/invitation for the NEC meeting stated.

WesternPost had earlier reported that the party’s NWC had recommended that the presidential primary should hold on May 30, while governorship primaries will take place in the 29 states where elections to elect governors will hold on May 24.

Senate primaries will hold three days earlier and House of Reps primaries is slated for May 19. The state Houses of Assembly candidates of the party will also emerge after the primary on May 17.

According to the timetable, the party will release a notice of election on April 20, while sales of expression of interest and nomination forms will start from April 22.

Aspirants vying for the country’s number one seat have until May 18 to submit their completed forms, while those vying for governorship and senate seats must submit their completed forms on May 16 and May 14 respectively.

May 11 and May 9 were also given as the last date for the submission of forms for House of Representatives and House of Assembly seats respectively.

The party fixed screening of presidential aspirants for May 23, governorship aspirants are to be screened on May 21 and Senate and House of Reps aspirants to be screened on the same day – May 17. while House of Assembly aspirants will also be screened on May 14.
