APC reconciliation committee begins peace talks in Kwara

The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced efforts to reconcile aggrieved members following disagreements arising from the party’s primary elections held in May.

The Chairman of the committee, retired Col. AbdulWahab Lawal, on Wednesday in Ilorin, said its mandate is to restore unity and strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, appealing to aggrieved party members to embrace dialogue and reconciliation.

“We appeal to all aggrieved members to open their hearts and minds for a warm and welcoming reception with a view to finding lasting solutions to this family predicament,” Lawal said, adding that the committee was constituted to reconcile party leaders and members across the state.

He expressed optimism that despite the challenges, the committee would succeed in restoring peace within the party. According to him, none of the parties involved in the disagreements had abandoned the APC, making reconciliation both necessary and achievable.

Lawal said the committee’s terms of reference include engaging aggrieved members and key stakeholders across the three senatorial districts to identify the root causes of the disputes, mediate among the parties and recommend lasting solutions. He added that a comprehensive report would be submitted to the state executive committee with recommendations aimed at promoting healing and reintegration.

The committee chairman urged party members to refrain from provocative statements capable of escalating tensions, stressing that unity and sacrifice would be essential to maintaining the APC’s electoral success in Kwara State. He said members should remain focused on strengthening the party rather than deepening existing divisions.

Lawal disclosed that the committee had already begun consultations with party executives, aspirants, candidates, stakeholders and other interest groups. He added that members of the G15 would also be engaged individually and collectively, while the committee would collaborate with individuals and groups already working to resolve the crisis.

He commended party faithful and stakeholders who had initiated reconciliation efforts before the committee’s inauguration, noting that the committee was established to reinforce, not replace, those initiatives. Lawal also appealed to the media, particularly social media users, to report developments responsibly and avoid inflammatory publications, assuring members that the committee remained committed to a transparent and inclusive reconciliation process.
