APC refutes Peter Obi’s allegations of threats from Felix Morka

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations made by Peter Obi, former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, claiming threats to his life by Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary.

In a statement signed by Morka, the APC described Obi’s accusation as “a self-evident malicious lie and an attention-seeking emotional blackmail.” The allegation stemmed from Obi’s comments on his verified X account, where he claimed that Morka had accused him of “crossing the line” and warned that he would face “consequences.”

Responding to Obi’s claims, Morka clarified that his remarks during an interview on Arise TV on January 4, 2025, were taken out of context. He explained that his statement, which included, “Mr. Obi has crossed the line so many times, and I think at this point he has coming to him whatever he gets. He should manage it,” was a response to Obi’s criticism of the government and his alleged dissemination of “voodoo economics,” rather than a personal threat.

“Nothing in that sentence constitutes or suggests a threat to Mr. Obi or anyone else,” Morka said.

The APC spokesperson accused Obi of peddling misinformation, engaging in opportunistic politics, and inciting his online supporters—whom he described as a “restless mob”—to issue death threats and intimidate critics.

“By falsely claiming that Morka threatened his life, Obi has libeled Morka and incited his online mob to make death threats against him and his family. That is unacceptable,” the statement read.

Morka further criticized Obi for what he termed “crossing the line of truth,” accusing the former presidential candidate of flip-flopping on key issues such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the dual foreign exchange system—policies that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu implemented and for which Obi had initially advocated during his campaign.

“Peter Obi has continuously lambasted and incited Nigerians against the Tinubu administration for doing exactly what he promised to do if elected. That is crossing the line of truth,” Morka added.

The APC called on Obi to withdraw his allegations and apologize, while urging him to caution his supporters against making further threats. Morka also expressed his readiness to defend his reputation against what he termed “malicious falsehoods.”
