APC schedules NEC meeting for July 24 to nominate new national chairman

By Kunle Sanni –
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for July 24 to nominate a new national chairman for the ruling party.
The decision was reached during an emergency session of the NWC held on Monday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, according to a report by The Cable.
This development follows the resignation of former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down from the position last Friday. The party later confirmed Ganduje’s exit, with APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, stating that the former Kano State governor resigned to focus on “urgent and important” personal matters.
In the interim, Ganduje’s deputy, Ali Bukar Dalori, has assumed the role of acting national chairman.
Briefing journalists after Monday’s meeting, APC Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, said the upcoming NEC meeting would formally set the stage for the nomination of a new party leader.
“As you are all aware, the National Executive Committee is the apex body of the party,” Fuanter stated. “So, any endorsement or nomination of a national chairman must be ratified by the NEC.”
He added that if the NEC chooses to nominate a new chairman during the meeting, the party will await final ratification at a subsequent national convention.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at the APC national headquarters in Abuja, and a formal notice has already been sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
