APC slams Peter Obi’s New Year message as misleading, pessimistic

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, over his New Year message, describing it as misleading and overly pessimistic.
In a statement issued by Felix Morka, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, the party accused Obi of spreading “gloom-ridden” narratives about Nigeria’s political, economic, and security situation.
“While Nigerians welcomed the New Year with hope for a more prosperous 2025, Peter Obi remains stuck in a loop of despair, issuing misleading statements aimed at scoring cheap political points,” the statement read.
The APC refuted Obi’s claims of worsening conditions in the country, highlighting what it described as the Tinubu administration’s steady progress.
The party pointed to significant achievements, including increased trade surpluses, foreign direct investments, growth in stock market capitalization, and improved foreign reserves.
It also cited the reduction of the debt servicing ratio from 90% to about 64%, the resumption of operations at the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, enhanced oil production and exports, and improved security, including the elimination of key terrorist leaders.
The APC further commended President Tinubu’s commitment to reducing inflation from 34% to 15% and addressing the high cost of food and essential goods through increased local production.
“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, President Tinubu is laying a deep economic foundation for a prosperous Nigeria. His reforms, though challenging, are already yielding results and deserve the support and patience of Nigerians,” Morka added.
The statement also criticized Obi for what it described as his failure to deliver transformative governance during his tenure as governor of Anambra State. It dismissed his remarks on corruption as redundant, given the administration’s ongoing anti-corruption efforts.
The APC concluded by urging Nigerians to remain optimistic about the future, expressing confidence in the Tinubu administration’s vision to create a “vibrant and prosperous new Nigeria.”
