APC slams Tambuwal, accuses him of hypocrisy amid defection remarks

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has hit back at former Sokoto State governor and PDP senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, over his remarks suggesting that recent defections to the APC were driven by “stomach infrastructure” rather than political conviction.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, on Sunday, the APC described Tambuwal as a “notorious and vainglorious party defector” who lacks the moral authority to question the motives of politicians switching allegiance.
“There remains profound wisdom in the saying that people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. That wisdom has clearly eluded Tambuwal,” the statement read, pointing out his own history of political cross-carpeting.
The APC accused Tambuwal of being an “itinerant politician” whose record of defection—from the ANPP to DPP, back to ANPP, then to PDP, later to APC in 2014, and finally back to PDP in 2018—demonstrated a pattern of self-serving political maneuvering.
Defections Driven by Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, APC Claims
Contrary to Tambuwal’s assertion, the APC maintained that recent defections from the PDP were inspired by President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms and the positive outlook for Nigeria under his administration.
“Members of the PDP are joining the APC to identify with President Tinubu’s bold economic reform agenda, which is yielding undeniable positive results,” Morka stated, citing improved oil production surpassing OPEC’s 1.5 million barrels per day quota, increased foreign direct investment, and a stronger stock market.
The statement further blamed Tambuwal and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the crisis within the PDP, calling on them to take responsibility for the party’s decline instead of attacking those who choose to leave.
“Instead of begrudging citizens for exercising their fundamental freedom of association, Tambuwal and fellow political figures like Atiku Abubakar should accept responsibility for the political carnage in the PDP, apologize to their members, and maintain a humble and penitent disposition going forward,” the statement said.
