APC urges Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Rivers

Chairman of the Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee, Tony Okocha, has urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in the state.
According to him, it is the only way to end the lingering political crisis in the state.
Okocha said Rivers State is at war and a state of emergency ‘remains the way out’ of the problem.
He condemned the inauguration of caretaker committees, contending that the appointment of caretaker committees has been outlawed.
The Rivers APC Chairman warned that any escalation of the crisis could affect Nigeria because of the importance of the state to the country’s economy.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Wednesday inaugurated caretaker committee chairmen to manage the affairs of the 23 local councils after the tenure of the previous council officers ended on Monday, June 17.
Violent clashes have been reported in different parts of the state. A police officer and a member of the vigilante were killed on Tuesday as loyalists of the governor and the former local council chairmen clashed.
