APC vows hitch-free convention as 7,200 delegates converge on Abuja

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is fully prepared for its national convention scheduled to hold on Saturday in Abuja.

The party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside the Chairman of the 2026 National Convention Central Coordinating Committee and former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, assured members that the exercise would be peaceful and well-organised.

Speaking ahead of the screening of aspirants for national offices, the Chairman of the Screening Committee and Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, said the process would be guided by fairness, equity and the rule of law.

No fewer than 7,200 delegates drawn from the 36 states and the FCT are expected to attend the convention at Eagle Square.

At an environmental awareness programme tagged “A Walk for Cleaner and Safe Environment” organised by the convention’s Environment and Sanitation Sub-committee, Yilwatda, represented by the Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, said the party was focused on delivering a successful convention.

“We are prepared and we look forward to Saturday when the convention will be held. We are here to celebrate and also prepare for our primaries,” Yilwatda said in a report by The Nations, noting that any challenges encountered would be overcome.

Masari also expressed confidence in the party’s readiness, stating that challenges are part of any major undertaking but would not derail the event.

Former Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, who serves as vice chairman of the sub-committee, said the party had demonstrated the capacity and energy required to organise a peaceful convention.
