Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday assured Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno and his supporters that they would not regret their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at a grand reception at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Shettima conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s personal message to the governor, describing the president as a “bridge-builder” and committed democrat who would welcome all new members.
“Mr President asked me to assure you personally: no one will question your place here. This party is your home. You will not be humiliated or forsaken,” Shettima told the cheering crowd.
Representing President Tinubu at the event, Shettima praised Tinubu’s resilience during political isolation as Lagos governor and his sacrifices for democracy, noting that he chose principle over political convenience.
Governor Eno said his defection was aimed at aligning Akwa Ibom with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and facilitating long-delayed projects in the state, including the Deep Sea Port.

APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, described the massive turnout as a sign of increasing confidence in the party’s direction and leadership.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio called the defection more than a political switch, describing it as a “movement” that will help strengthen ties between the South-South region and the federal government.
