The governorship candidate of the Action People’s Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has donated N2.5 million to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Bode Market in Ibadan, describing the incident as a painful tragedy that has disrupted the livelihoods of many families.
Adekanmbi made the donation during a visit to the market on Friday to assess the level of destruction caused by the inferno, which razed several shops and destroyed goods worth millions of naira.
The APM governorship candidate expressed sympathy with the victims, noting that the fire had left many traders facing severe financial hardship after losing their means of livelihood.
He urged those affected not to lose hope, assuring them that they would recover from the unfortunate incident with the support of government, individuals and corporate organisations.
As part of his intervention, Adekanmbi presented a cash donation of N2.5 million to traders whose shops and goods were destroyed, saying the gesture was aimed at providing immediate relief and demonstrating solidarity with them during the difficult period.
According to him, the disaster has once again highlighted the urgent need for improved safety measures in markets across Oyo State, particularly the provision of functional fire prevention facilities and faster emergency response systems.
He also appealed to well-meaning individuals, private organisations and philanthropists to support the affected traders to enable them rebuild their businesses and return to normal commercial activities as quickly as possible.
Adekanmbi prayed for the victims, expressing optimism that they would recover from their losses and emerge stronger, while the beneficiaries commended the governorship candidate for identifying with them in their moment of grief, describing his visit and financial support as timely, encouraging and a demonstration of genuine concern for their welfare.
