Apo-Karshi Road to open in December after 15-year delay, says Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that the long-delayed Apo-Karshi Road will be completed by November and inaugurated in December.

Wike gave the assurance on Saturday in Abuja after inspecting the progress of work on the 13.5-kilometre Apo-Karshi Road and the 14-kilometre Bwari-Kubwa Road.

He said the Apo-Karshi Road, originally awarded under a previous administration, had remained uncompleted for about 15 years, causing persistent traffic congestion for residents of satellite communities along the route.

According to him, the FCT Administration revoked the original contract because of prolonged delays and re-awarded it to SCC Nigeria Ltd., which he said had the capacity to complete the project.

‘The Apo-Karshi Road has been a topical issue. It was awarded in 2010, one of those projects President Bola Tinubu inherited. Because of its importance and the complaints by residents, we had to terminate the contract and award it to SCC, which we know has the capacity to complete the job,’ Wike said.

The minister commended the contractor for sustaining work despite funding cycles, assuring that the government would meet its financial obligations to ensure timely completion. He also said the contractor handling the Bwari-Kubwa Road had committed to delivering the project in December.

Wike said the completion of infrastructure projects remained the strongest evidence of effective governance, stressing that political campaigns should be based on tangible achievements rather than promises.

‘When people ask me about campaigns, I say, What is campaign? See the campaign. Campaign is about what you have done for the people and what the government has to show. It is not about promises; it is about taking action that positively impacts lives,’ he said.
