Aregbesola appointed Interim National Secretary of ADC

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
Former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has been appointed as the Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party recently adopted by the National Opposition Coalition Group.
The announcement was officially made on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
In his acceptance speech, Aregbesola expressed gratitude to the party leadership for entrusting him with the role. He also appreciated ADC members for their commitment to the transformative power of politics.
He emphasized that a political party should not be a platform for opportunism or personal ambition but a living institution built on values, guided by ideals, and accountable to the people it serves.
Aregbesola commended the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa as a model of party supremacy over government, describing it as a 113-year-old institution grounded in ideology, principle, and people-centered struggle.
He lamented that most Nigerian political parties lack depth, driven instead by power struggles, personal interests, and shallow alliances that neglect citizens’ welfare.
Pledging to reposition the ADC, Aregbesola said the party would be rooted in democratic values, social justice, accountability, transparency, and national development, while promoting internal democracy, youth and women inclusion, and fair intra-party competition.
He further promised that the ADC would adopt international best practices in party organization, citing examples from South Africa, Sweden, Chile, and Kenya, adding, “We must be the party that talks about public education and actually builds schools; that speaks of security and supports real policies; that believes in jobs and works to create them; and that stands for Nigeria not just during elections, but in everyday governance.”
