By Mosunmola Ayobami, Ilorin –

Deputy Senate Leader, Sen. Lola Ashiru, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State, citing his credentials as superior to those of other aspirants.

The senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District disclosed his intention and expressed optimism about winning the election while receiving executive members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in his hometown on Sunday.

According to him, his credentials make him the best fit for the position, adding that he understands the people of Kwara State better than anyone else.

He further urged the people of the state to make the right decision, noting that great leaders are essential for good governance.

“I have come into this race. Before now, I had not publicly declared my intention to contest, but by God’s grace, I am going to contest,” he said. “I believe I have the best credentials to govern Kwara State for the next four years, and I believe I understand the people and the place called Kwara better than anyone else because I have been here longer than any other contestant.”

At the time of filing this report, Western Post confirmed that Sen. Lola Ashiru remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
