Aspirant asks court not to recognise Fijabi as Oyo APC Reps candidate

An aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly primary election for the Ibadan North-West/South-West Federal Constituencies in Oyo State, Biodun Ikumoguniyi has dragged the party to court.

In a suit he filed at the Ibadan Division of the Federal High Court, Ikumoguniyi prayed for an order to stop the APC from presenting Saheed Akinade-Fijabi as the party’s candidate.

He also asked the party not to recognise any other person as the candidate for the election.

Ikumoguniyi asked for “an interim order of interlocutory injunction restraining the 2nd defendant from accepting and or recognizing Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, the 3rd Defendant or indeed any other person as the 1st Defendant’s flag bearer to contest the 2023 Ibadan Southwest & Northwest Federal Constituency House of Representatives elections pending the hearing and determination of this suit,” the suit document seen by WesternPost read.

Ikumoguniyi and six other aspirants had earlier petitioned the party’s election appeal committee over Fijabi’s choice as the candidate.

In a petition to the committee, the aspirants insisted that no primary election took place at Lafia Hotel, Apata, saying that Saheed Akinlade-Fijabi couldn’t have gone ahead to declare himself the winner of an election that didn’t take place.
