Aston Villa, Galatasaray lead race for Onyedika’s signature

English Premier League side Aston Villa has reportedly joined the race to sign Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika from Belgian club Club Brugge.
According to transfer specialist Sacha Tavolieri, Villa’s interest was prompted by a serious injury to Boubacar Kamara, leaving Unai Emery’s team in urgent need of a robust defensive presence in midfield.
Despite Villa’s late entry, Turkish Süper Lig champions Galatasaray remain the frontrunners for the 24-year-old’s signature. Reports suggest the “Yellow and Reds” have already made significant progress, allegedly agreeing personal terms with the Nigeria international.
Galatasaray is said to have offered Onyedika a four-and-a-half-year contract, with Club Brugge reportedly open to lowering their initial asking price to facilitate a January move.
Onyedika’s stock has risen sharply following an impressive performance with the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. The defensive midfielder showcased his versatility and goal-scoring ability in Nigeria’s final Group C match against Uganda, netting a decisive second-half brace.
His performance earned him the Man of the Match award and a place in the tournament’s “Best XI” for the group stages, helping Nigeria secure a perfect record en route to the knockout rounds.
With the January transfer window entering its final week, attention now turns to whether the allure of the Premier League or Galatasaray’s project will prevail for the Club Brugge midfielder.
