At 14.7%, Lagos State has lowest inflation rate in southwest, says NBS report
A report by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Monday disclosed that Lagos state with 14.7 per cent Year-on-Year (YoY) in August 2025 has the lowest inflation rate in the southwest geopolitical zone in Nigeria, followed by Ondo state with 17.6 per cent.
The report by NBS disclosed that Ekiti state, 28.2 per cent; Oyo state, 26.6 per cennt; Ogun state, 24.3 per cent and Osun state, 22.1 per cent have the highest inflation rate among south-west region in Nigeria.
In recent months, the Lagos state government has implemented key anti-inflationary measures.
The bureau in its report announced the Nigeria inflation rate dropped to 20.21per cent in August 2025 from 32.15 per cent in August 2024.
On report on states, the report by NBS stated that the all items inflation rate on a YoYbasis was highest in Ekiti, 28.17per cent, Kano, 27.27per cent, and Oyo, 26.58per cent, while Zamfara, 11.82per cent, Anambra, 14.16per cent and Enugu, 14.20 per ceent recorded the lowest rise in headline inflation on a YoY basis.
“On a Month-on-Month basis, however, August 2025 recorded the highest increases in Yobe (9.20per cent), Katsina (8.59per cent) and Sokoto (6.57per cent), while Enugu (-5.32 per cent), Taraba (-3.64per cent), and Nasarawa (-3.56per cent) recorded decline in Month-on-Month inflation,” the NBS report disclosed.
“In August 2025, Food inflation on a Year-on-Year basis was highest in Borno (36.67 per cent), Kano (30.44 per cent), Akwa Ibom (29.85 per cent), while Zamfara (3.30 per cent), Yobe (3.60 per cent), and Sokoto (6.34 per cent) recorded the slowest rise in Food inflation on YoY basis. .
“On a Month-on-Month basis, how ever, August 2025 Food inflation was highest in Kaduna (9.37 per cent), Katsina (9.05 per cent), Akwa Ibom (7.87 per cent), and while Bayelsa (-9.52 per cent), Sokoto (-8.92 per cent), and Borno (-8.74 per cent) recorded decline in Food inflation on Month-on-Month basis,” the report stated on states food inflation.
