Atiku, Ayu welcome Shekarau back to PDP in Kano

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu and the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar on Monday received former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau back to the party.
Shekarau joined the PDP after he dumped the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Ayu who administered Shekarau into the PDP membership then presented him with the party’s membership card at a rally held in Kano.
An elated Atiku wrote on his verified social media handles:
“The PDP family grew bigger today with the return of H.E Ibrahim Shekarau to our party. He surely will bring his wealth of experience and join hands with other party stakeholders to oust the APC and enthrone a new era of prosperity and good governance for Nigerians.”
Before the public declaration into PDP for the second time, there has been speculation as to where Shekarau will pitch his political tent again after the news filtered out last week that he fell out with Kwankwaso and his NNPP.
Shekarau was a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but left the party immediately after its formation in 2013 because he refused to accept Kwankwaso as the leader of the party in Kano State. He was received into PDP then by former President Goodluck Jonathan who was the sitting President. Jonathan later appointed him as Minister of Education.
He returned to APC after the party won the presidential election in 2015 and later got a senatorial ticket in 2019 under the platform of the party. He again had political disagreement with the current Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje over sharing of party offices.
The APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu intervened to settle the political disagreement between Shekarau and Ganduje but to no avail.
Among those who also were around to receive Shekarau to the PDP were the vice presidential candidate and Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, Governors or Sokoto and Taraba states, Aminu Tambuwal and Darius Ishaku, former Vice President, Namadi Sambo and Chairman Board of Trustees, Walid Jibrin.
Others are former governors of Jigawa, Saminu Turaki and Sule Lamido, Sokoto, Attahiru Bafarawa, Kaduna, Ahmed Markafi and Adamawa, Boni Haruna.
