Atiku condemns DSS, Lagos Assembly staff confrontation

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned the recent altercation at the Lagos State House of Assembly between armed security operatives and assembly staffs, calling the act utterly reprehensible.

In a statement, Atiku demanded a full and thorough investigation into the incident, which has drawn widespread concern.

The viral video of the armed operatives with assembly staff at the legislative body has sparked outrage.

Atiku described the incident as appalling, stating that those who had fought for democracy were now sanctioning the desecration of the state’s foremost legislative institution.

“This attack is an affront to the sanctity of democracy and a serious insult to the Nigerian electorate, especially the people of Lagos,” Atiku said.

“It is bewildering that those responsible for defending democratic values are now undermining them in such an egregious manner.”

While leadership disputes are not unusual in democratic systems, the former vice president stressed that involving armed security forces to resolve the crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly was a dangerous and undemocratic approach that needed urgent scrutiny.

He further criticized President Bola Tinubu’s involvement, suggesting that his focus should be on addressing the nation’s challenges rather than interfering in the internal affairs of state matters.

“The invitation of armed security operatives to settle a parliamentary dispute is unacceptable and must be immediately addressed,” Atiku stated.

“We must prioritize our democracy, and those responsible for undermining it must be held accountable.”
