Atiku confirms WesternPost story, says talks with Obi, Kwankwaso ongoing

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has confirmed WesternPost story over talks concerning the possibility of Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi stepping down to support him.

WesternPost had exclusively reported last week that Obi was considering stepping down for Atiku upon the realisation that the coming election is going to be a straight fight between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP.

Speaking in a interview with BBC Hausa Service on Tuesday, Atiku confirmed that there were ongoing talks with Obi and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

He added that both politicians do not stand as a threat to him becoming president in 2023.

“Although, I see no threat in any of them but we are in talks, and the discussion might yield a positive result that will see one of them coming,” Atiku said.

On the lingering PDP crisis, Atiku said each party has its internal crisis and theirs will not be an exemption but they are looking to solve every difference in no distant time.

Atiku added: “Each party has its internal crisis, we are still talking with them. Most are neither in PDP nor in other parties and definitely that will not make us lose the election because we are okay with the election preparations for now.

“Election now is not like in the past when a governor will dictate who to vote for. Election today is in the hands of the voters.”
